For Teri, living in his own apartment at Nextt’s Wynnum Shared Support Hub means having the freedom to make everyday decisions, stay connected with family and enjoy the things that matter to him.
In this video, Teri shares what he enjoys about living at Wynnum, how his independence has grown since moving in and the reassurance of knowing Nextt’s onsite support team is available 24/7 when he needs assistance.

“For me personally, it’s because it is close to family. I have quite a lot of family close by. Plenty of shops, plenty of doctors, restaurants. You can actually see the train station right from right here. It’s only 100 metres away.
It means I actually get to live a life of my own. I don’t have set bedtimes.
There’s a lot of things that I could have done while I was at home, but I know I never would have if I didn’t move here. Studying, going out shopping, going to the gym as often as I do.
Being someone who is in a wheelchair, there are a lot of things that can happen unexpectedly. When you don’t have support workers 24/7, there is always an onsite Hub that is just a phone call away.
They will help me get dressed. If I have people that are coming over unexpectedly, they’ll help. I get them to help tidy up, whether it be, you know, the floors or the dishes.
The assurance that there is going to be someone there. But there’s also independence that I have now living by myself.
Only took 40 years, but hey, I’m here.”
Teri’s story shows how having a home of your own, making everyday choices and knowing support is close by can make a real difference.
