Our Shared Support Hub provides on-site assistance in Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) apartment complexes. Funding for the support hub is from the NDIS under core supports as a separate line item: unplanned onsite shared supports in Specialist Disability Accommodation.

What are NDIS Core Supports?

NDIS Core Supports cover essential assistance to help individuals with disabilities carry out daily activities and achieve greater independence. These supports are designed to meet everyday needs, promote community participation, and enhance overall quality of life.

Core Supports can be flexible, allowing participants to allocate their funding based on their individual goals and needs.

What can Core Supports be used for?

Core Supports are divided into four categories:

  • Assistance with Daily Living
Helps with personal tasks such as bathing, dressing, cooking, and cleaning. It helps participants live as independently as possible in their own homes.
  • Transport
Provides funding for participants to access transport services, enabling them to travel to work or places that will help them pursue their goals.
  • Consumables
Covers the cost of everyday items such as continence products, low-cost assistive technology, or other essential disability-related supplies.
  • Assistance with Social and Community Participation
Supports participants in engaging with their community through social or recreational activities, helping to build relationships and foster inclusion.
What is Supported Independent Living?

Supported Independent Living (SIL) provides funded support for people with disabilities who need assistance in a home environment, to help them live as independently as possible. Disability support workers can help with daily tasks such as personal care and household chores, and they offer overnight assistance as well.

SIL services at Nextt are funded through the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) or state government insurance bodies.

Am I eligible for Supported Independent Living?

Eligibility for SIL depends on your NDIS plan and individual support needs. If you require significant daily assistance and aim to build your independence, SIL funding may be included in your plan.

You’ll start with your housing goal, such as wanting to live more independently. Then complete a NDIS Home and Living application including as much evidence as possible, such as reports from allied health professionals, hospitals, psychiatrists, or incident reports. Ensure that all the evidence aligns with your support needs.

Can Nextt help me find Disability Accommodation?

Yes, Nextt can assist in finding suitable disability accommodation tailored to your needs. Whether you require Supported Independent Living in standard housing or Specialist Disability Accommodation, our team works closely with you to identify the best living arrangements.

If you are looking for affordable housing where you can receive your SIL services, Nextt can help you find suitable housing within your budget. What is the difference between SIL and SDA?

Supported Independent Living (SIL) are the support services – providing ongoing assistance with daily tasks to help individuals live more independently, in shared or individual living spaces. Most people with SIL funding live in standard houses in the community, which can include apartments, villas, or houses.

Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) refers to purpose-built housing designed for individuals with high support needs, who cannot access standard housing. Features can include ceiling hoists, assistive technology, strong walls, emergency power, and adjustable kitchen counters. Nextt works with leading SDA providers to get you the support you need in a home you like. Some SDA options are shared homes, while others offer private apartments or villas, sometimes with an extra bedroom.

What are the Categories of SDA housing?

Specialist Disability Accommodation or SDA is categorised into four main types:

  1. High Physical Support is designed for physical accessibility, such as provision for ceiling hoist, back up power supply, and home automation technology.
  2. Improved Liveability is designed for people with sensory, intellectual or cognitive needs, with potential features like walls and floors that are very easy to see.
  3. Robust design accommodation is for residents with complex behaviours, such as very strong and durable construction features.
  4. Fully Accessible housing is designed for a high level of physical access such as wheelchair accessible.
